Benmore Garden:- Benmore is a living textbook dedicated to rhododendrons. Home to over 250 species, it cultivates some of the finest Himalayan rhododendrons from the familiar to the rare. Benmore boasts a world-famous collection of magnificent conifers, flowering trees and shrubs. Its 150 acres feature some of the tallest trees in Britain, including a spectacular Avenue of Giant Redwoods – these majestic giants soar over 40 metres high!
The Bishop’s Glen :- This was once the source of Dunoon's water supply, but with the opening in 1977 of the pumping station and filtration plant at the south end of Loch Eck, the Clyde coast area between Ardentinny and Toward is now supplied from this almost limitless source.
The Bishop's Glen is a favoured beauty spot and a delightful walk and can be entered either from the top of Nelson Street, the bridge at the head of Auchamore Road, or Kilbride Road.
Castle Museum:- The Castle House Museum, which has been open since 1998, is one of Dunoon’s most historic locations. Dunoon became a holiday resort when Lord Provost Ewing of Glasgow bought the land around the ruined medieval castle and built himself a holiday home. This was in 1824 and many other wealthy businessmen followed his example.
Highland Mary:- Located in front of the castle museum highland Mary is one of the most historical and famous location of Dunoon. On a raised position in the grounds of the Cowal Gardens beside the Castlehouse museum, stands the statue of Highland Mary. Mary Campbell was born at Auchamore Farm, Dunoon, as the daughter of a local ship owner, and became later known for her liaison with famous Scottish poet Robert Burns.
Carrick Castle: - located at a dramatic position on the west shore of Loch Goil, south of Lochgoilhead, castle date from the 12th century.
Campbell stronghold captured by Atholl and destroyed by fire in 1685, during Argyll’s rebellion. It remains roofless but ruins are impressive, with two floors above the central hall.
Toward Castle
Now in ruinous Toward Castle was the principal castle of the Lamont family. The castle was a oblong tower house standing on a promontory down which much of the masonry collapsed.
Built in the mid 15th century with it’s courtyard with gatehouse. A hall and kitchen buildings on the east of the court may date from the late 16th to early 17th centuries. Is must place to visit with grate history laying behind.
Castle Lachlan
Part of castle dating form 12th or 13th century this is another early, located on Loch Fyne. It was the seat of MacLachlan clan. MacLachlan joined the Jacobite cause in the 1745 rising. One of his sons were killed at Culloden and the castle was sacked in 1746, although the MacLachlans later had their lands restored.
Auchategan, Glendaruel
Cowal Archaeological Society excavation revealed a long history of occupation beginning with Neolithic settlers. Flint tools and stone cooking places were found.
Holy Loch Marina: - Holy Loch Marina, situated on one of the Clyde's finest natural harbours, and the marine gateway to the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, Argyll, Scotland.
Dunoon Bird Garden:-
Situated between Dunoon and Sandbank. It has a wide variety of exotic birds such as parrots, geese and macaws.
Waverly: - Last remaining full functional paddle boat in the world Waverly, holds a great history of the place. Opens only in summer, Waverly gives grate pleaser and takes back in time, is fully owned by a charitable organisation.
